In fact, truth be told, I was ready to give up on blogging. I had started another blog a very, very long time ago when blogging first came out and thought that I didn't have time for it, even though I love astrology almost as much as I love writing. But astrology is mysterious and sometimes we even question its motives. Will it always give us the answers we want? Not always but the fun is in the mystery of the unknown. I believe that this is what led readers to the site and I believe that this is why almost 14,000 of you visited this site in one month. I'm very proud to say this!

Next month, which is right around the corner, look for celebrity predictions on many movie stars, politicians and look for a few special surprises! We'll continue our fortune telling through playing cards and have other bonuses and special treats just for you. Yo considero que no tiene tantas opciones como el space del msn , my space, bloger, blogspot, sonico entre otros, de hecho esta muy limitada, y las pocas o muchas aplicaciones que tiene solo hacen alentar la computadora y miren que mi conexion es de las mas rapidas, basicamente solo sirve para conocer gente, no puedes agregar un buen reproductor de musica o uno bueno de video, mas que el de youtube, las imagenes que luego me encuentro en cada pagina dejan mucho que desear, ademas de que cada dia te encuentras con errores fatales, como el no poder ingresar comentario, no pder subir tus fotos, no poder ver tus mensajes, ademas ser de las principales fuentes para conocer gente tambien es un peligro mayor, ya que la mayoria de personas inscritas aqui solo ingresan a personas que normalmente no conocen y eso es un riesgo, a demas de encontrar comentarios ofensivos hacia las personas, si quieres una pagina solo para cotorrear y conocer amigos y gente desconocida te recomiendo esta pagina aunque corre bajo tu propio riesgo, si quieres algo con mas seriedad, compra un dominio que no son tan caros o algo como blogspot, blooger, o wordpress.

Since I (obviously) have a blog, I guess I'll write about my history with blogging... However, my experiences seem to be epic since I "tend to be" (ha!) rather loquacious writer.

Journaling was (and still is!) a regular thing for me to begin with, so the idea of posting my thoughts online -anonymously- and being able to receive feedback from others was INCREDIBLE to me. I was the odd-girl out at school; didn't have a lot of friends after being uprooted in the middle of junior high, and high school was miserable. My relationships at home were strenuous to boot (what teen's aren't?) so finding a positive community online was a blessing for me.

Over the years, I have had anywhere from 2-5 blogs going simultaneously, posting as frequently on some as 2-3 times a week, or as little as once a month. While this is my first "professional" blog, my others were personal (traditional journaling), social, promotional (for my comic), or goal-oriented (read: weight loss). I have a tendency to divide my life into different compartments and those different facets of my life have the temptation of having their own blog. No wonder I sometimes feel like a schizophrenic!

I began "blogging" long before it was a buzz-word, and I have been an addict ever since. It was early 1997, and I had gotten mom's old computer when she got a new one from work. As soon as I had it set up, I was on the internet. I don't remember how I first discovered it; if I had done a web search, stumbled upon it, or if it was something a friend had told me about, but I soon found OpenDiary... and I was hooked.

On OpenDiary, I posted nearly everyday for nearly 4 or 5 years. Nowadays that length of time seems like an internet eternity. The vast number of social networks available on the web has turned many of us into fickle creatures... we'll create new accounts all over and bounce from digital place to digital place. We'll create so many that older accounts become forgotten or hardly used.

Staying on OD for several years really paid off because I had slowly grown a very supportive and uplifting group of people who's posts I read as faithfully as they read mine. I can't tell you how just how much they helped increase my feeling of self-worth, the loving and sometimes tough advice they gave to help me along my rough spots. They were no longer "anonymous" to me, but real people, real friends. There are even two online friends I still talk to from time to time over the phone. Though I've continued to journal online, I have yet to build the same sense of community that I had at OD.

Eventually, "additional features available" coaxed me to move from OpenDiary to LiveJournal where I spent another 2-4 years, off and on. I think then, it was still referred to as an online journal, and not "blog." I was 2 years hesitant to join the sudden craze of MySpace simply out of principal... though I eventually caved - virtually ALL of my friends were there, and I wanted to stay in touch. Even though I was on MySpace for roughly 3-4 years, I didn't blog on there NEARLY as frequently as I did with LJ or OD. Most times I'd copy/paste my entry from LJ to MS. But MySpace customizable profile was definitely a guilty pleasure.

The more time I spent on MySpace, the more my LJ blog went to the wayside and in general, I was posting entries less and less. Ironically (for me), the time I came around to MySpace was when I started hearing the buzz of "blog" and that was when it seemed, suddenly overnight, everyone had one, and if you didn't you needed to get one. There was a sudden boom of free and paid blog hosting sites and templates available.

From this boom, I discovered Blogger (wasn't it originally Blogspot?) and immediately after, Wordpress. I was torn - I loved both... the templates, widgets and customizable features were awesome. I wound up creating several other blogs in a short amount of time (*cough*addict*cough*), although I have since significantly reduced to 1 main blog on each: Blogger serves my personal interests while Wordpress has my professional posts.

Then came Facebook. Again I resisted. For principle. Besides, Facebook was more of a networking site rather than a dedicated blog (although they do have that feature camouflaged as "Notes"). Besides, how many social networking/blog accounts does a person really need? If we played the association game, Facebook is to College students what MySpace is to High Schoolers. So of course... all my friends on MySpace began migrating to Facebook... which meant I was (again) one of the last ones of the group to begrudgingly move.

So where am I at today? My account on OpenDiary is sadly long gone. My LiveJournal account is inactive, but I could probably still log on. I have since removed myself from MySpace entirely. I check my Facebook account maybe once a day, or every other. And I post regularly to my personal blog on Blogger, and I am trying to post more frequently here as MerLibra on WordPress.

One of the worst things I think a dedicated blogger can do is to delete their entries without archiving, backing up to another place, or better yet - printing them out. One of my biggest regrets is when I deleted over a year's worth of entries after breaking up with an abusive ex, and again after graduating from high school. I wish I would have saved those entries because as annoying and trivial they may have seemed at times to read, I realize now that as a whole they meant a great deal. I thought then they would be nothing but embarrassment and painful memories. At the time I wanted to Move On and Forget. Now those entries would have meant "Look How Far I've Come."

Maybe this is just the journal traditionalist in me, but diaries and journals are meant to help us track our growth as individuals - whether it's personal or professional. Our memories are such fragile and sometimes deteriorating things, that to have something documented and written down is something solid we can spring forward from.

So if you haven't started a blog yet, I dare you today to start one... and stick with it.

Hosszú éveken át nem éreztem szükségét annak, hogy blogomat kimondottan blogszolgáltatásra specializálódott oldalon toljam a nagyközönség képébe, idén tavasszal is inkább a kíváncsiság, mint a céltudatos tervezés repített a Wordpress-re. Gondoltam egy merészet, és úgy döntöttem, praktikusabb, ha "mindenestül" ideköltözöm - és nem csalódtam. Korábban már volt néhány kósza flörtöm egyéb szolgáltatókkal, így következzék most az én kis személyes blogservice-toplistám (első része), hátha más is épp szolgáltatók között vacillál.

5. A leggyengébb blogszolgáltató sajnálatos módon a Blogter.hu ("T-Online, gratulálok!"). Minden összejött, ami korszerűtlen és ronda: csapnivaló sablonok, reklámcsík a fejlécben, sok hibaüzenet, ráadásul extra szolgáltatások (honlapépítő, blogbefagyasztás) vagy widgetek sincsenek. Felfoghatatlan számomra, miért választja valaki Blogter-t, hiszen egyetlen előnye, hogy a családias és lassan bővülő felhasználói körnek köszönhetően mindenki ismer mindenkit, ami napi ötven hozzászólást eredményez boldog-boldogtalannak. Döbbenetes, hogy akármilyen blogra tévedek, szinte mindenhol ugyanazok az arcok kommentelnek, mintha valami furcsa belső szubkultkör tartana titkos ülést (zárójelben jegyzem meg, hogy nagyon fura nicknevekkel, or is it just me?), ahol "belépés csak blogtereseknek" tábla várja a "kívülállókat." A Blogter tehát inkább blogos fórum, annak viszont még lehetne elég korrekt. Lehetne, de ahhoz azért sűrűbben kellene fejleszteni a már meglévő fícsöröket...

4. Az Extra.hu blogszolgáltatása számomra kissé felfoghatatlan, bizarr vállalkozás: gyakorlatilag önálló fejlesztés nélkül átvették a Wordpress ingyenes sablonjait és vígan aláírták, hogy "powered by Blog.Extra.hu"? Eddig cirka öt sablont ismertem fel a WP istállójából, és itt most nem azokról a userekről van szó, akik az Extrát csak ingyentárhelynek használják, és a Wordpress.org blogtoolját töltötték le maguknak otthonra. Nem: "a blog szolgáltatás jelenleg tesztelés- és fejlesztés alatt áll", az Extra viszont magáénak érzi az új admin-feületet és a régi WP-s sablonokat is, azon pedig "egyelőre még dolgoznak", hogy saját arculatot is építhessen az ember a már meglévő admin-felület beiktatásával. Fura egy felállás, annyi szent. Mindenesetre a szolgáltatás gyakran akadozik, sokszor órákig elérhetetlen és persze gecilassú, vagyis csak erős idegzetűeknek ajánlott.   

3. A Blog.hu a magyar blogszolgáltatók körében még talán az egyik legjobb választás (a Freeblogban nem vagyok biztos). Hátránya, hogy kevés a sablon és azok is egy téglából építkeznek, de legalább ingyen és bérmentve belenyúlhatunk a CSS-be, ami azért mégis csak hasznos dolog. Az elérhetőség meglepően jó, kevés a hibaüzenet, a statisztika ugyan áttekinthető és pontos, de az IP-t nem írja ki kommenteléskor.

2. A Blogspot.com meglepően jó szolgáltatás, szinte minden nyelven: okos SEO (a Gugliban többnyire Blogspot-os vagy Wordpress-es linkkel találkozhatunk a privát oldalak körében), a zömében ízléses layout-ok mellett viszonylag könnyen, gyorsan és mindenképpen ingyenesen kreálható saját design, ráadásul százmillió oldal van, ahonnan kész designokat szerezhetünk teljesen ingyen, vagyis grafikai szempontból talán ez a legjobb választás. És egyébként? Szimpatikus, felhasználóbarát szerkesztő, egyedül a kommentfelület ronda és szerkeszthetetlen (plusz gyakran nem tudok kommentelni, ami elviekben a böngésző hibája is lehet). Sajnos itt is kapunk reklámcsíkot a fejléc fölött, de ilyen az élet, semmi se tökéletes.

A Wordpress.com-mal eddig maradéktalanul elégedett vagyok: nagyon jó keresőoptimalizálás, értelmes, okos, felhasználóbarát szerkesztőfelület, amit regisztrálás után tíz perccel már probléma nélkül tudtam használni, sok-sok hasznos extra, remek elérhetőség, gyors oldalbetöltés, tehát itt tényleg minden a user kényelmét szolgálja. Hál' Istennek nincs reklámcsík, se reklám, írhatsz jelszóval védett bejegyzést vagy oldalt, satöbbi. Hátrányok: sajnos sok widget beillesztését nem teszi lehetővé a program, így pl. - fájdalom, de igaz - egyelőre pl. Last.FM lejátszót sem lehet közszemlére tenni. A CSS csak előfizetéssel mófosítható, ami ugyan nem több párezer forintnál egy évre, de azért mégis csak csak plusz macera előfizetni rá, ha véletlenül éppen más színvilágot preferálunk. Ha viszont saját - vagy egyéb fizetős - sablont szeretnénk, akkor pedig egyenesen Wordpress.org-ra nyergeljünk át saját tárhely mellett.

Between now and the next class, each team was assigned the task of emailing a user name and password to the head librarian.  The head librarian will then be able to create a wordpress blog account for each team.  One team will share a username and password.

In summary, despite the fact that some students are hesitant about using thsi learning technology, their teammates' enthusiasm is helping them embrace the process much more readily than if they were to go at it alone.  Having some time in the computer lab too helps them become more accepting of blogs and wikispace as they are riding on the energies of their teammates and competing teams.
